Nobody wants to suffer from chronic pain. A lot of chronic pain is treated with prescriptions that have scary side effects. Fibromyalgia is one such diseases that doesn't always find relief in prescription medication.

This little understood disease can be debilitating. Sufferers often find that they are restricted to bed because the pain is so unbearable that it makes any movement difficult.

Fibromyalgia is little understood, but pretty much everybody agrees that it causes chronic pain. The discovery of this disease and its treatment has been revolutionary in the medical world because it has proven to be nonscientific in its diagnosis and usually responds best to alternative or nonprescription medicinal treatment.

A new wonder juice that is believed to even have anti-cancer properties - Nopalea juice - is also touted for its pain relief properties for those who suffer from fibromyalgia. This wonder juice is chock full of healthy and natural ingredients. Sometimes its natural flavor is sweetened by other whole juice, but you rarely see anything artificial in this product.

For hundreds of years, the prickly pear cactus has lived in the Sonoran desert. To make the juice, Nopalea juice is squeezed from the pulp of the Prickly Pear Cactus, also known as the Nopal plant, a native of Mexico . The pads of the plant were traditionally eaten as a vegetable.

The prickly pear cactus grows all across the U.S. including gin northern states like Mexico , but it is native to Mexico and southern portions of the U.S.

It is believed the Aztecs even ate it and mined it for its health benefits.

The cactus sprouts gorgeous red, purple or yellow blossoms. It grows between one foot and seven feet high. It is considered an antioxidant rich plant that has anti-inflammatory properties. It is part of a select species of plant life that contain a pigment called betalains, that contain these properties.

Betalains are believed to help detoxify the body. Ingesting juice from the cactus is believed to help lower cholesterol and lower blood sugar levels, as well.

Because of its link to reducing inflammation in the body, there are many studies to see if it can affect some of the serious conditions caused by inflammation such as arthritis, diabetes, allergies, asthma, a fibromyalgia. A lot of people who suffer from fibromyalgia suffer worse side effects from prescription anti-inflammatory drugs, which is one reason that alternative medicine has become a standard part of treatment for this disease.

For some skin conditions, like eczema, people are prescribed prednisone as a long-term solution. The benefits of even considering something like Nopalea juice for diseases such as fibromyalgia are that it is a natural product without any chemicals in it.

Treatment of fibromyalgia has included other natural diet remedies such as eating garlic, fatty fish, green tea, flax and parsley. It just makes sense that something that is safe enough to be considered food by many can be pressed into a juice with beneficial properties. The juice form the prickly pear cactus contains all the B vitamins and some minerals as well.
